KONENKI, THE INVISIBLE AGE

Konenki, the Japanese word for menopause, is a photographic series exploring the body in transition and ageing as a stage of renewal rather than decline. Through twenty portraits of women, including a self-portrait, made in their own homes, the project examines bodily transformation, the redefinition of identity, and the experience of increasing social invisibility.

Photographed on 6×6 colour film with a Rolleicord, the images embrace the imperfections and multiple exposures of analogue photography, echoing the complexity and fragility of this transition. Fragments of conversations accompany the photographs, giving voice to stories that have long remained unseen.

Konenki: The Invisible Age invites us to see menopause as a threshold to a new way of inhabiting female identity—one in which the body, memory, and lived experience become the foundations of a renewed presence.
